Summary: From Holzkamp to Vygotskij and back

The development of Critical Psychology took place within specific institutional and social contexts and, at the same time, was linked to those people who promoted its development in a variety of ways. This paper takes the example of the Tübingen research team to illustrate theoretical, methodological and practical development within a cooperative research process. In the 1980s, the Tübingen youth research group was formed and took critical psychology as the basis for its work, focusing especially on empirical research within the framework of national and international projects and taking the trade unions, especially, as a practical point of reference. The work conduct by the Tübingen group illustrates how practical questions also lead to changes in underlying theoretical principles. Integrating the work of Vygotskij into Critical Psychology gives greater weighting to the value of social and cultural aspects in relation to the individual subject.
