Summary: ‘Psychology does not reach into horror’ – Adorno about the individual and society

In this article the author tries to reconstruct how Adorno comprehends the possibilities of the emancipation of humankind. Therefore, it is necessary to summarize Adorno’s analysis of the human-world-relation in capitalistic societies. Furthermore, the author explores some thoughts by Adorno on the relation between nature and society, the relation between psychology and rationality as well as on psychoanalysis and behaviourism. Against this background of considerations it is finally discussed, whether – according to Adorno – the only way of preserving the possibilities of emancipation can be found in the individual’s epistemology.
